Sales on Memorial Day are just tacky to me. All holiday sales are a little bit, but Memorial Day more so.

“We’re at war while America is at the mall.”
The Warrior at the Mall is an excellent op-ed. The author is a USMC veteran.

I agree with all this, but I still feel like we can have one day where we at least don’t try to capitalize on honoring fallen veterans. We don’t have to boycott the mall today and spend the whole day at a cemetary, just maybe not offer discounts on a slab of meat on a day that’s made to remember people dying. ¯\_()_/¯

Absolutely. Nothing is sacred any more when there is a buck to be made. And that’s bad.

I’m not sure what’s more worse though, a ‘memorial day sale’ or people saying ‘happy memorial day’.
I mean ‘happy, there’s no happy about it. It’s a memorial to remember those who died in war for the country and by extention, you and your country folk walk around saying ‘happy memorial day’ on your way to a sale.
It’s a time of remembrance for those that died, and to remember and learn from what those made it through, went through.

That’s another odd one for sure. I don’t seem to hear it a lot, though. Usually just ‘enjoy the long weekend’ or something. And yeah it’s not just a happy 3 day weekend, but I feel like at that point we’re nitpicking and one of “those people” who has to tell everyone the exact proper way to observe.
